HC Deb 01 June 1908 vol 189 cc1567-8
SIR J. JARDINE (Roxburghshire)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that the medical officer of health for the County of Roxburgh has reported that the drains in the village of Newcastleton are defective and half full of sludge, and that the water drawn from the wells is dangerous to drink; and whether, in the event of the proprietor taking no measures to remedy this state of things, and in view of the risk of typhus and diphtheria, any public action will be taken by way of precaution.

MR. SINCLAIR

The facts, as stated by my hon. friend, have been duly reported and the Local Government Board are in communication with the local authority as to the remedies that should be applied.
