HC Deb 31 July 1908 vol 193 c1945
MR. STEADMAN (Finsbury, Central)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board if he can state the number of men employed in connection with the traffic department of tramway undertakings in the United Kingdom.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I have made inquiry, but I cannot find that there is any exact information on this subject. I understand, however, that the total number of the cars is 11,561, and that on an average the number of employees may be estimated at four men per car. This would give the estimated number of men employed as 46,244.
