§ MR. CLYNES (Manchester, N.E.)I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he has received statements from Manchester showing the increase in the number of unemployed persons in that district and the concern for the difficulties to be faced later in the year; and whether he can undertake to assist the efforts of the local authorities by grants of money to meet their requirements.
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. JOHN BURNS,) BatterseaI do not find that I have received any recent statement to the effect referred to in the Question. I shall certainly do all I can to administer to the best advantage the sum voted by Parliament in aid of the expenses incurred by the distress committees, so far as it falls to my Department to disburse it.
