§ MR. ELLIS GRIFFITH (Anglesey)To ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, whether the committee appointed by the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries to inquire into the question of distemper in dogs have carried on or intend to carry on any experiments on dogs by inoculations or otherwise for the purpose of their inquiry; if so, where will such experiments be conducted, by whom and at whose expense, and how many dogs have up to now been used for this purpose, and with what results.
(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) The reply to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. The experiments will be conducted on registered premises by members of the committee, who hold the necessary licence, and the expenses will be defrayed out of public subscriptions. Thirteen dogs have up to the present time been used for the purpose mentioned. It is too early to make any statement as to the results of the inquiry, but a full Report will be issued by the committee in due course.
