HC Deb 23 July 1908 vol 193 c308
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN (Kilkenny)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that a policeman took part in the doings of a mob which paraded the streets of Portadown on the morning of the 13th instant, smashing windows and doors in the houses of Catholics; and whether any notice will be taken of such conduct by the policeman's superiors.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The police authorities inform me that full and searching inquiry has been made into this subject, and that not the slightest foundation can be found for the allegation contained in the Question. Moreover, no complaint whatever has been made to the police authorities that any such conduct occurred on the part either of a constable or of a mob.
