MR. DUNDAS WHITE (Dumbartonshire)To ask the Secretary for Scotland how much of the grant of £200,000 in the last financial year in aid of the expenses under the Unemployed Workmen Act, 1905, was allotted to Scotland; how it was apportioned as between the various places which received grants; and how much was raised locally in each of these places.
(Answered by Mr. Sinclair.) In reply to the first part of this Question I may refer my hon. friend to the Answer given to the hon. Member for Sutherland on 16th June. As all accounts for the year ended 15th May have not reached the Local Government Board for Scotland, I am unable to state the sums raised by each distress committee. The following are the figures for five of the fourteen distress committees:—
£ | |
Aberdeen | 142 |
Dundee | 76 |
Edinburgh | 598 |
Partick | 259 |
Pollokshaws | 75 |
§ With regard to Glasgow a sum of about £8,000 was collected for purposes of relief, but was placed at the disposal not of the distress committee but of a committee specially created for the purpose.
