HC Deb 20 July 1908 vol 192 cc1450-1
MR. F. MEEHAN (Leitrim, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the number of extra police stationed in the district of Ballinaglera, County Letrim, to the fact that all causes of disturbance have been removed, the land question in that locality practically settled, and the district perfectly peaceable, he would give instructions to have all extra police withdrawn.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) Five extra policemen are stationed in the district referred to. The police authorities inform me that there has been an improvement in the state of the district, but that it would be premature to reduce the strength of the police at present. The force will be reduced as soon as the circumstances warrant the adoption of that course.
