§ MR. COCHRANE (Ayrshire, N.)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether the Government intend to make any grant to Scotland equivalent to the 613 £6,000 to be granted to aid tobacco-growing in Ireland.
§ MR. HOBHOUSEI have consulted my right hon. friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer who wishes me to say that when a case can be made out in Scotland, as in Ireland, for encouragement to experiments in tobacco-growing the Government will be prepared to give it the same favourable consideration.
§ MR. COCHRANEIs the hon. Gentleman aware that experiments have shown that tobacco can be successfully grown in Scotland?
§ MR. HOBHOUSEI am afraid I can add nothing to the Answer.
