§ MR. § MR. DELANYTo ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the names of the tenants in the village of Ballacolla, Queen's County, whom the Estates Commissioners propose to exclude from the sale on the Caldbeck estate, and their reasons for so doing.
§ MR. DELANYTo ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that Captain Caldbeck has raised objection to the erection of five labourers' cottages upon his untenanted land; and, in view of the fact that the Estates Commissioners are in treaty for the purchase of the whole estate, will he say what steps it is proposed to take to secure the erection of these cottages.
(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners are unable to make final arrangements for the purchase of the estate in question and for the allotment of the untenanted land until it has been decided what portion of the property is to be acquired for the purpose of the Labourers Acts. An inquiry into the scheme of the Abbeyleix Rural District Council for the provision of labourers' cottages has recently been held, but the inspector's order has not yet been made. The inspector is considering the objections which were made to the erection of cottages on the estate in question.
