To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether there is any rule forbidding contracts or orders being given to firms directly or indirectly connected with public boards in Ireland; and what is the nature of the rule.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) This matter is dealt with by statute. The principal provision is contained in Article 12 of the schedule to the Application of Enactments Order, 1898. Other enactments will be found in Section 93 of the Poor Belief (Ireland) Act, 1838, Section 11 of the Poor Relief (Ireland) Act, 1851, and Section 270 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878.
