HC Deb 08 July 1908 vol 191 c1643
MR. W. JOHNSON (Warwickshire, Nuneaton)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the intention of the Government, under Clause 6 of the Finance Bill, 1908, to fix 1st January next as the date of transfer to county councils of the power to levy the duties on local taxation licences, to which Clause 6 applies; and whether, after that date, 1st January, 1909, such licences will continue to be issued by the Inland Revenue and post offices, respectively.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) I have appointed an inter-departmental committee to advise as to the most convenient date for the transfer. Under the arrangements contemplated, the issue of the licences in question would be confined to post offices.
