HC Deb 08 July 1908 vol 191 c1641
MR. WATT (Glasgow, College)

To ask the Secretary for Scotland if he will state how much was spent in 1907 by the Government in Scotland in furthering the principle of co-operation among farmers, and how many farmers' co-operative societies now exist there.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) My right hon. friend has asked me to reply to this Question. No grants have been made by the Government for the purpose to which my hon. friend refers. The Board have no information as to the number of agricultural co-operative societies in Scotland beyond that contained in the Report for 1907 of the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society, from which it appears that seventeen societies of that nature have been formed and affiliated to the central society.
