HC Deb 07 July 1908 vol 191 cc1469-70
MR. GIBBS (Bristol, W.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General if he can state the average sum per annum deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank per head of depositors for the last five years, and also the number of depositors each year for the last five years.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON, Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

The number of accounts open at the end of each year is given in Appendix J. to the Postmaster-General's Report. It is not possible, without great labour and expense, to say in how many of these accounts deposits were actually made in each year. The average sum deposited per open account was as follows in each of the last five years—

£ s. d.
1903 4 6 10
1904 4 3 11
1905 4 4 10
1906 4 5 1
1907 4 2 8
