HC Deb 06 July 1908 vol 191 c1213
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Clare E.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he car state why a large force of police was ordered to attend a public meeting held at Kilmurray, Sixmile Bridge, County Clare last month; and whether the presence of so large a force was in any way necessary.

(Answered by Mr. Cherry.) The police authorities inform me that on the occasion in question a demonstration was organised for the purpose of denouncing an obnoxious person who resides in the neighbourhood, and the police were directed to attend in order to prevent intimidation, and generally to preserve the peace.
