HC Deb 03 July 1908 vol 191 c1085
COLONEL WALKER (Lancashire, Widnes)

To ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, in view of the continued prevalence of glanders in London, whether the Board of Agriculture will now consider the necessity of adopting the Rideal-Walker method of controlling the supplies of disinfectants called for under their order, such method having been adopted by the War Office, Admiralty, and Board of Trade.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) The outbreaks of glanders in London are steadily decreasing, the number of outbreaks this year to the 20th ultimo being 248, as compared with 302 for the corresponding period of last year. Its prevalence would not in any way appear to be due to the failure of the present method of disinfection, and the Board are advised that no advantage would be gained by the adoption of the method to which the hon. Member refers.
