To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of motor cabs licensed for hire in London; what is the number of cabs and hansom cabs, as distinguished from motor cabs, licensed for hire in London; what number of applications for motor cab licences are now awaiting settlement; what is the number of motor omnibuses licensed for hire in London; and what is the number of horse omnibuses licensed for hire in London.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) 1,508 motor cabs are licensed for hire in London; 5,329 hansom cabs and 3,768 horsed four-wheel cabs are similarly licensed. The number of motor omnibuses is 1,046 and of horsed omnibuses is 2,281. So far as is known there are no applications for motor-cab licences awaiting settlement.
