§ MR. FELL (Great Yarmouth)To ask the President of the Board of Trade if the price of 32s 11d. per quarter, being the average price of wheat imported into London in 1907, includes landing charges and port dues; and, if not, what is the approximate amount of those charges per quarter.
(Answered by Mr. Kearley.) The p ice quoted does not include charges of the nature referred to. I understand that in the case of wheat in bulk the charge for working out, weighing, and delivering overside into barges amounts to 1s. 9d per ton. The rates for landing, re-weighing, delivery, &c, vary so much, according to place and circumstances of discharge and the period which elapses between the final discharge of parcel and actual delivery, that I cannot give an average figure. The ton may be taken as equivalent to four and two-third quarters.
