HC Deb 25 February 1908 vol 184 cc1550-1
MR. CHAPLIN (Surrey, Wimbledon)

To ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, what are the average prices of English beef and United States and Canadian port-killed beef for each of the years 1903 to 1907, inclusive.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) Prior to 1904 there are no official statistics giving the desired information. The average prices for 1904 to 1907, inclusive are:—

the President of the Board of Agriculture what proportion of meat sold in Smithfield Market in 1907 was of foreign origin; and how this proportion compares with 1897, 1887, and 1877.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) We will endeavour, as far as possible, to obtain the information asked for, and we are in communication with the clerk of the market on the subject.
