HC Deb 24 February 1908 vol 184 cc1348-9
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether His Majesty's Government have decided to reduce the troops in South Africa by some 4,000 men and 600 horses; and, if so, whether he can state what troops of each arm will be maintained in the various British South African Colonies, inclusive of local forces.

MR. HALDANE

It has been decided to withdraw from South Africa one regiment of Cavalry and four battalions of Infantry. As regards the last part of the Question, I am not at present in a position to state the detailed redistribution of the troops.
