§ Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY (Limerick, W.)I beg to ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, if he can say whether the Board of Agriculture still approves of the name of Pearksown and the other names to which Pearks is added, for milk-blended butter, having regard to the fact that a firm of the name of Pearks and Company, Limited, manufactures and sells this article.
§ SIR EDWARD STRACHEYYes, Sir.
§ MR. O'SHAUGHNESSYIs not the hon. Gentleman aware that the name "Pearksown" leads purchasers to believe they are buying butter?
§ SIR EDWARD STRACHEYI am not aware of the fact. If the hon. Member can give me any information I will consider it.
§ MR. O'SHAUGHNESSYWould not common sense tell the hon. Gentleman it is a fact? Will the hon. Gentleman 1366 do away with the name which' misleads the public?
§ SIR EDWARD STRACHEYIt is a question for the President of the Board of Agriculture to consider.
§ MR. O'SHAUGHNESSYYou have said that before.
§ MR. BYLES (Salford, N.)In view 'of these difficulties of nomenclature why not on the principle of calling a spade a spade call this article milk-blended butter?
§ SIR EDWARD STRACHEYBecause it would be illegal.
