§ MR. CURRAN (Durham, Jarrow)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any reform of the composition of the Legislative Council of Malta is contemplated by His Majesty's Government; and, if so, can he say what direction the reform will take.
§ MR. CHURCHILLRepresentations regarding the composition of the Legislative Council of Malta are before the Secretary of State, but I regret that I am unable to make any statement on the subject at present.
§ MR. CURRANIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that prior to 1902 the Council was made up of thirteen elected and eight appointed members, and that in that year its constitution was altered and it was composed of ten appointed and eight elected members.
§ MR. CHURCHILLI am well aware of that. I gave the subject my best personal attention when I had the opportunity of visiting Malta.
