FENWICK (Northumberland, Wansbeck)I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware that in some cases contractors have omitted to insure their workmen under the impression that when men are engaged upon work for the Government there is no need for such insurance; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take.
§ MR. HARCOURTIt has been reported to me that some such misapprehension exists, I need hardly say that it is wholly unfounded. Under the Workmen's Compensation Act the liability of employers whose workmen are engaged 1425 on work for the Government is precisely the same as that of any other employer.
