HC Deb 06 February 1908 vol 183 c1082
MR. MYER (Lambeth, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that it is occasionally the practice for magistrates, especially during the hearing of appeal cases, to take part in the decision of cases without having heard the whole of the evidence; and whether he will issue instructions regulating the conduct of justices, thereby preventing such abuses in the future.

MR. GLADSTONE

I have no knowledge of any such practice. If my hon. friend will furnish me with the information on which his Question is based, I will consider whether I can take any action in the matter. I may point out, however, that I have no power "to issue instructions regulating the conduct of justices."

MR. MYER

I shall be glad to furnish the right hon. Gentleman with the information.
