To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether his attention has been called to a case in which the amount of compensation money payable under the Licensing Act, 1904, was determined by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue in pursuance of Rule 31 of the rules made by the Secretary of State under Section 6 of the Licensing Act, 1904, and in which the Commissioners had issued their certificate of award as to the amount to be paid to the persons interested, and in which, on receiving notice of an intention to appeal to the High Court against such award, the Commissioners issued a new award; and whether he proposes to take any steps by legislation or otherwise to prevent such action in the future.

(Answered by Mr. Asquith.) I do not know to what specific case my hon. friend refers, but I am informed that there are not infrequent instances of an award by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue being reconsidered in the light of new
