HC Deb 06 February 1908 vol 183 cc1076-7
MAJOR ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information with regard to the recent disturbances in the North-West of Persia, whether the interests of any British subjects are affected, and, if so, what steps have been taken to safeguard them.

SIR EDWARD GREY

A state of general unrest prevails in the province of Azerbaijan, and especially on the northern portion of the Turco-Persian frontier, owing to the recent movement of Turkish troops. I am not aware that the interests of any British subjects are affected, though anything which threatens seriously the relations between Persia and Turkey must naturally continue to engage the attention of His Majetsy's Government.
