HC Deb 05 February 1908 vol 183 c876
MR. CHARLES CRAIG

On behalf of the hon. Member for East Down, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the recent Commission appointed to inquire into the loss of the Crown and other jewels from Dublin Castle, had no power to compel the attendance of witnesses or to administer the oath to such witnesses as voluntarily appeared before it; and whether he will ask Parliament to appoint a Commission with full powers to inquire into the disappearance of the jewels and other matters closely connected therewith.

MR. BIRRELL

The Answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative.
