HC Deb 05 February 1908 vol 183 c871
MR. CHARLES CRAIG

On behalf of the hon. Member for East Down, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland how many persons are at present under police protection in Ireland, and how many police are engaged in the duty.

MR. BIRRELL

On 31st January, fifty-four persons were receiving constant protection and 151 police were employed in affording that protection. On the same date 216 persons were receiving protection by occasional patrols, but it is not possible to say how many police were engaged in affording patrol protection, seeing that men are not specially detached for that duty.
