HC Deb 05 February 1908 vol 183 cc874-5
MR. CHARLES CRAIG

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that on the night of 21st January, the houses of two farmers named respectively Fahy and Mealia, at Leitrim, near Loughrea, in County Galway, were fired into; whether the police have made any arrests in connection with the matter; and what steps are being taken to prevent outrages of this nature which have become so common in this part of the country.

MR. BIREELL

The houses of the men named in the Question were fired into on the night of 22nd January. The shots were heard by a police patrol which had been at the place a quarter of an hour earlier. The police, however, were unable to make any arrests. A large extra force is serving in the district of Loughrea, and all possible measures are being taken for the preservation of the peace and the detection of offenders.
