HC Deb 05 February 1908 vol 183 c849
MR. RICHARDSON (Nottingham, S.)

To ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, what labelling will be necessary for Irish butter sold to the public which may contain more than 16 per cent. of moisture and up to 24 per cent. of moisture.

(Answered by Sir Edward Strachey.) The Board have no authority to determine the manner in which Irish butter containing more than 16 per cent. of water should be sold, so as to avoid giving rise to a complaint by the purchaser under the Sale of Food and Drugs Acts, and it is not desirable that they should express an opinion on the question.
