HC Deb 03 February 1908 vol 183 cc514-5
MR. MITCHELL-THOMSON (Lanarkshire, N. W.)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether His Majesty's Government has information with regard to any negotiations between the Governments of Madagascar and the Transvaal for the provision of Malagasy labour for the Transvaal mines; and whether he will lay Papers on the subject.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Transvaal Government has inquired of the Secretary of State whether the French Government would be prepared to sanction the recruitment of native labour in Madagascar, and in reply the Transvaal Government is being invited to give particulars as to the proposed terms of recruitment.
