HC Deb 03 February 1908 vol 183 c532
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he has received a report of the shooting of Mr. Patrick Ryan, a national school teacher, at Dooms, East Clare, on 23rd January; whether he has any information as to the reason for the outrage: and whether any arrests have been made.

MR. BIRRELL

The reply to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. It would be contrary to practice to state the opinion, if any. of the police as to the motive for an offence. The police have not yet succeeded in obtaining evidence which would justify them in making an arrest.
