HC Deb 21 December 1908 vol 198 c2364
MR. T. F. RICHARDS

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he will reconsider the application of the Brentford Urban District Council for sanction to create a distress committee; and, in the event of his not being able to grant the application, will he state what steps may be taken by the council to deal with the unemployed in its area.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I have not received any representations since I came to a decision with regard to this application which would show that is ought to be reconsidered. I should hope that the necessities of the case would be met by local effort, and I understand that the urban district council are doing their best to provide work upon which the unemployed may be engaged.
