§ * MR. REESI beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the Bengal Chamber of Commerce has addressed the Bengal Government in regard to the legislative proposals of the Report of the Indian Factory Labour Commission, urging that any new legislative provisions should not, in respect of jute mills, go beyond those prescribed by existing Acts; and whether, in view of the importance of this industry, the Government will insure that the said representation shall be favourably considered.
§ MR. BUCHANANThe Answer to the first Question is in the affirmative. The views of the Chamber will undoubtedly receive consideration, but the Secretary of State cannot undertake to say more than this.
