§ MR. BOLAND (Kerry, S.)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the local demand made in Mauritius for a commission of inquiry into the financial position of the Colony; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.
§ COLONEL SEELYThe matter has formed the subject of correspondence with the Mauritius Government. The unofficial Members of the Legislature rejected a proposal for a Commission which was put before them by Lord Elgin's directions, and I am not aware that they have at present changed their attitude with regard to it.
