HC Deb 14 December 1908 vol 198 c1214
MR. COOPER (Southwark, Bermondsey)

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the public complaints of the unclean condition of many of the third-class carriages on the suburban lines of the London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway; whether any public authority is charged with the duty of inspecting the condition of railway carriages and prohibiting unclean carriages being used; and, if not, whether his Department has any power in the matter.

(Answered by Mr. Churchill.) I have recently received a complaint in this matter which I have forwarded to the railway company. I now propose to invite the company's observations upon my hon. friend's Question, and will communicate with him in due course.
