HC Deb 03 December 1908 vol 197 cc1688-9
MR. DELANY (Queen's County, Ossory)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what is the cause of the delay in making the final distribution of the untenanted land on the Caldbeck estate, Ballacolla, Queen's County; whether the Estates Commissioners have approved of the allotments made by their inspector, Mr. Booth, in which the bailiff of the estate and a wealthy merchant in Ballacolla, who also keeps the post office, are apportioned two of the largest holdings on the untenanted land, to the exclusion of the small holders in the locality; and can he say when the inspector proposes again visiting Ballacolla.

MR. BIRRELL

The allotment of the untenanted land cannot be made by the Commissioners until their formal proposal to purchase has been accepted by the owner, and this proposal cannot issue until title has been proved. The Commissioners cannot say when their inspector will again visit Ballacolla.
