HC Deb 01 December 1908 vol 197 cc1267-8
MR. MCKILLOP

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state what is the present position of the negotiations with regard to the proposed sale of the Countess of Charlemont's estate, County Armagh; whether any application has been made by the tenants to the Estates Commissioners for inspection; whether pressure has been brought to bear on the tenants to enter on agreements which they consider unfair; whether a memorial on behalf of the tenants was presented to the Estates Commissioners, and whether any reply was made to it; and what action, if any, the Estates Commissioners proposed to take to safeguard the interests of the tenants affected.

MR. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners have referred the papers relative to this estate to their inspector. Until he has completed his inspection and made his report, the Commissioners cannot express any opinion as. to their future action in the matter.
