To ask the Undersecretary of State for India if he will state what was the cause of the recent rioting in Bombay, on how many days the police and military fired on the mob, and how many persons were killed and how many wounded during the rioting.

(Answered by Mr. Buchanan.) As regards the first part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the Answer I gave to the hon. Member for Bolton on the 28th July. According to the latest information received by the Secretary of State, the police and military were compelled to fire on six days; among the rioters, fourteen persons were killed and thirty have been reported as wounded. Several police officers have also been wounded.
