HC Deb 29 April 1908 vol 187 cc1256-7
MR. CLOUGH

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether the endowment of the foundation known as the Kirkburton Grammar School was undenominational in origin; whether, since the Act of 1902 came into operation, the funds have accumulated by £93 per annum; whether there is now a balance of £400 in the bank; whether these endowments can be used in furtherance of education higher than elementary; and whether he will order an inquiry into the origin and present administration of the educational endowments at Kirkburton.

MR. RUNCIMAN

Instructions have been given for the holding of a local public inquiry, the scope of which will include the application of the endowment as well as questions arising in connection with Section 8 of the Education Act, 1902. Pending the report of the inquiry, it would be premature to express any opinion as to the future application of the funds or as to the character of the endowment. The Board have no information as to whether the income is accumulating or as to the balance in hand.
