HC Deb 28 April 1908 vol 187 cc1065-6
MR. O'DOWD

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners have inquired into the case of Mary Cryan, evicted tenant on the estate lately owned by Major Phibbs, and which is situated in Mullinabreena, near Tubber-curry, County Sligo; and, if so, whether, as this estate is now vested in the Estates Commissioners, and as the present occupier is endeavouring to dispose of the evicted farm by private treaty, steps will be taken to have Mary Cryan reinstated in the holding from which she was evicted eleven years ago.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners have inquired into this case and have decided that they cannot take any action in it. The applicant was not evicted by the landlord, but by her brother-in-law, as the result apparently of a family dispute. It is not the case that the Commissioners have purchased the estate in question.
