HC Deb 06 April 1908 vol 187 c922
MR. ASHLEY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War how many men are required at the present time to bring the Regular Army up to establishment; and whether, when the strength as been brought up to establishment, it is his intention to raise the establishment of infantry battalions at home and on the British establishment abroad from 720 to 800 rank and file.

MR. HALDANE

The figures for the 1st March only are at present available and are as follows—

readjusted the terms of service, and it is estimated that the enlistments, which are being made on the new terms, will before long get rid of the existing shortage.
