HC Deb 02 April 1908 vol 187 c672
MR. J. M. ROBERTSON (Northumberland, Tyneside)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will call the attention of the British Agent-General in Egypt to grave complaints which have been made as to the recent neglect of regulations for the prevention of cruelty to animals in Cairo and elsewhere since the retirement of Major Jarvis, and urge upon him the importance of enforcing, and, if necessary, strengthening, such regulations.

SIR EDWARD GREY

I have no official information that complaints have been made such as those described by the hon. Member. But I will inquire of His Majesty's Agent and Consul-General, and bring to his notice the complaints referred to. It is, of course, very desirable that adequate precautions should be taken to prevent cruelty.
