§ MR. GLADSTONEA third Assistant Under-Secretary of State was appointed on the 2nd of May, 1906. His chief functions are to assist in the consideration of petitions in criminal cases, and in administering the Aliens Act. The salary appears on the Estimates for this year for the first time because the creation of the post was not sanctioned until after the Estimates for 1906–7 had been settled and published.
