I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total of the taxes on food and drink, both Excise and Customs, for the last financial year.

MR. ASQUITH

The total revenue from such taxes, including local taxation revenue, in the financial year 1906–7 amounted to £49,185,599, of which £36,260,893 was contributed by alcoholic drinks.
