MR. PIKE PEASEI beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total of the taxes on food and drink, both Excise and Customs, for the last financial year.
§ MR. ASQUITHThe total revenue from such taxes, including local taxation revenue, in the financial year 1906–7 amounted to £49,185,599, of which £36,260,893 was contributed by alcoholic drinks.
