HC Deb 15 May 1907 vol 174 c979
MR. BOTTOMLEY (Hackney, S.)

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General for Ireland whether he is aware that invitations to participate in Irish lotteries are being largely circulated in this country; whether there is any law in force forbidding the holding of such lotteries; and, if not, whether he will introduce legislation extending the Lottery Act to Ireland.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. CHERRY,) Liverpool Exchange

I have no official intimation that invitations to participate in Irish lotteries are being largely circulated in England, but I believe the fact to be as stated by the hon. Member. The law on the subject is the same in England and in Ireland. In both countries such lotteries are illegal; so that there is no necessity for any such legislation as the hon. Member suggests.
