HC Deb 15 May 1907 vol 174 c957
MR. CLAUDE HAY

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he proposes to take to carry out the recommendation of the Departmental Committee that military service should be included in assessing the pensions payable to Civil Servants who have served in the Navy or in the Army.

MR. RUNCIMAN

This question has been carefully reviewed by the last and the present Board of Treasury and they have both come to the conclusion that, having regard to the dissimilarity of the conditions affecting appointment, promotion, pay, and pension in the Army and Navy on the one hand, and in the Civil Service on the other, there is insufficient ground for asking Parliament to modify the present practice.
