HC Deb 09 May 1907 vol 174 c356
MR. ASHLEY (Lancashire, Blackpool)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information as to the rebellion in the South of Morocco; and whether any steps are being taken to safeguard British subjects within the districts affected.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir EDWARD GREY,) Northumberland, Berwick

His Majesty's Minister at Tangier considers the published reports as exaggerated. News has reached him that one of the disaffected tribes is threatening to interfere with the Sultan's administration in Morocco City. It has not yet been possible to obtain confirmation of these reports, which do not, however, point to any unusual danger affecting British subjects.

MR. ASHLEY

Does the Sultan's writ run in the South of Morocco?

SIR EDWARD GREY

There is always a certain amount of disturbance in the South of Morocco.
