HC Deb 08 May 1907 vol 174 c207
MR. WATT (Glasgow, College)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty what were the original prices of the two war vessels last sold from the Holy Loch, when were they built, and what prices they have now brought; whether he will consider whether better figures could be obtained if no condition was attached insisting on the breaking up of the vessels; and if he will take steps to alter this condition.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. EDMUND ROBERTSON,) Dundee

The ships to which my hon. friend refers are the "Conqueror" and "Undaunted." The "Conqueror" was completed in 1886 at a cost of £401,991, and fetched £16,800. The "Undaunted" was completed in 1889 at a cost of £273,737, and fetched £14,400. The question of the conditions of sale, which is not merely a question of finance, is under consideration.
