MR. FIELD (St. Patrick) Dublin,

To ask the Postmaster-General whether he can state, with reference to the recent vacancy in the postmastership of Birr and the invitation in respect of this vacancy, the number of applications received; how many came from officers serving in Ireland, England, and Scotland, respectively; whether he can state the length of service and previous experience of the officer appointed; whether the appointee was the senior of those applying; and, if not, whether he can state the length of service of the most senior official from whom an application was received serving in Ireland, England, and Scotland, and to what offices attached.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) As I have already informed the hon. Member, it is not customary to publish particulars of the applications received.
