HC Deb 06 May 1907 vol 173 c1350
MR. A. ALLEN (Christchurch)

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether it is necessary for all officers promoted to the rank of overseer in the London postal service to have an intimate knowledge of the local sorting, including the town area of the district, when qualifying for promotion.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON, Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

It is the duty of overseers in the London Postal Service to supervise the work of sorters and postmen, and it is necessary for them to possess such a knowledge of the local sorting as will enable them to discharge this duty efficiently.
